Fresh Produce are an exciting new hip-hop duo who awed me through their debut We Are Fresh Produce. They say they came together around Christmas 2014, deciding to collaborate officially after a few ciphers. Listening to the full-length debut which resulted, it is evident that whatever occurred was destined. Their wonderful collaboration expresses perspectives which are commonly shared between many of those in black communities especially, but not only, and women. Eyedress – Shapeshifter LP
After sharing and removing several new songs from soundcloud through-out the year, Eyedress dropped one of my personal favorite albums to be released, Shapeshifter. This album strings together some prodigious features like Edgar The Breathtaker a.k.a. King Krule, Pyramid Vritra, Jasmine, Ankhten Brown, and more who associate with Babe Slayer. I feel Eyedress continues to make whatever he wants, without much concern for the genre and how people are going to take it. Traedonya – Simply Beautiful UR Feat. Irish Soulflower
To prepare for the release of her EP High Fructose & Corn Syrup, Traedonya recently unveiled a smooth recreation of Al Green’s Simply Beautiful. The songstress is also know as The Bride Of New Funk Hipopera. She makes the song her own with impressively strong and soulful vocals that do the lyrics justice while creating a unique spin that makes it feel brand new. Plewto Smith – #PUSSY EP & More
#PUSSY (Pure Urban Sensual Satisfying Youngin) is a clever work by the artist known as Plewto Smith. The Atlanta-based former-rapper recently created this smooth vocal project. Throughout #PUSSY, he shows his gift as a singer, blending soul, trap, and electronic styles throughout the eight-song mixtape. I am most impressed by the approach he took to blending classic r&b harmonies with more eclectic production. He states that he hopes to spread the message of individuality and love, which is forever embraced here on The Frolic. Phlow – Melanin EP
The Melanin EP is a wonderful play to either begin or end the night with a room full of friends, and I also highly recommend it when you attempt to get closer to a special one. The entire project is light and well balanced. It is truly fitting for any time you want to smile, dance, and celebrate life.
