Meeting Jhené & Souled Out
Jhené Aiko might be a new artist to many of the people I stood in line with yesterday, but for me, she’s as influential as any other older artist who debuted in the early 2000’s. I didn’t plan on doing a post for Souled Out because you can hear about it just about all over. I then heard the album and decided that regardless of it already being exposed for the people to grab and find on their own, it is an important project to me as an individual and to all music, current r&b, and consciousness. And so, this belongs on the frolic. While I’m at it, I’ll also…

Junglepussy Video – Nah
I woke this morning feeling like today would be a great one and the universe proves me right with all of the amazing energy coming my way. Also, the world has been blessed with a new visual from the “brown hottie with a body” herself, JP! Junglepussy is the current artist who I find myself continuously sharing with friends and acquaintances, itching to turn people on to her movement. Every time I do mention her to someone new, I get a similar reaction. They’re all shocked by the name and a comical discussion about it follows. Personally, I think her name is pure genius and the beautiful thing is that…

Amatus – Broken Compass
I usually feature music that I come across on my own, but really good music has been finding me as well. It’s like having a cupcake walk up to my door, ring the bell, then being able to indulge in that cupcake forever. Such is the case with this talented Brooklyn based artist I’m listening to named Amatus! She recently released a project called Broken Compass. You can stream it here and/or download it by following the bandcamp link I’ve listed below. I’ve also provided the DOPE new video for her lead single, Messin. The concept is very clever and relevant to the way we get along through life. Do…

Tiffany Gouche – Fantasy EP
I caught myself staring at the cover art for this project for a while. I don’t know the artist, but I have to find out. I’ll also be bumping this EP for the remainder of summer, and the year. I loved this beautiful project even more after my second listen. There’s always something about the second listen that really hooks you onto something, I notice. The first one turns your head but it’s that replay that gets you to fall in love. The entire EP, from beginning to end is pure, fresh r&b genius to me. The bass on some of these songs is just amazing! Enjoy!

Allan Kingdom – Future Memoirs
Delivering some more NEW waves! I have been listening to Future Memoirs for a few days now, and it feels perfect to add to my growing list of music here on the frolic. The Spooky Black feature is what led me to this and other previous and equally stunning EPs by Minnesota native Allan Kingdom. Their collaboration on Wavey is one of my favorites, besides Evergreens, Souls, Famines, and Context, which all add a flavor to this rare sound. I LOVE the production on this project. Some of the sounds, when lined with his flow is really interesting and awesome! His amazing production skills and flow grants a high place…

The Weeknd – Often
I’m feeling the urge to update with more music lately! I guess my period of avoiding the intake of too much music has ended. For a while, I found myself reluctant to listen to music as much as I once did because of a metamorphosis of sorts. You know, we all know the roller coaster moments in life… I couldn’t handle the journey I usually go on when I listen to music because of what was happening to me internally. My life was shifted so greatly that music wasn’t as important for me to absorb as it was for me to start writing. This was only for a month or…

Little Simz – E.D.G.E. EP
I have replayed E.D.G.E. more times than I remember now. Little Simz caught my attention from a freestyle, but it wasn’t until I came upon clips posted by her management that I decided to listen to more of her work and found myself taking it in all it once. It’s like that sometimes. I am glad that I came upon those clips at that time, because this girl’s flow is phenomenal! You instantly notice that she is not the typical female MC we are presented with by society, these days. For one, she is British and puts no effort into hiding her accent. Little Simz also counters the general aesthetic…

Princess Nokia drops new album “Metallic Butterfly”
This LP has been one of the most anticipated on my list since I first discovered the electic sound of Nokia as Wavy Space. Princess Nokia and her producer OWWWLS have managed to perfectly sculpt this extremely visual work with themes that include the power of women, self discovery, defining oneself, culture, raising frequency, and acknowledges that we are all extraordinary beings of light and power. It even begins with Nokia introducing you to the album as a new planet called Metallic Butterfly. This album is a mesh of so many styles, one of my favorites being the trip-hop feel of “Biohazard Butterfly”, although I wouldn’t seriously pin a “fav”…

TiDUS – Apocalypse
For a while, I’ve been wondering about/expecting the moment when the rest of the world tunes into Tidus. I would say that it’s now just a matter of…alignment. He’s one of the many upcoming artists who have me more excited than ever about the changes which are about to befall music. Do not sleep on this sound! Watching this video from his latest EP New Age, I immediately recognized the visual work of RUFFMERCY, who also did work on the visual to one of my favorite Blu songs, Doin’ Nothin. It is a perfect collaboration. I highly encourage you to also check out some of Tidus’s earlier work, which includes…

Danny Watts – Poetic Effusions
Take a gander through the ripples of my mind. Messenger Series Vol. 1 – Danny Watts This song is brilliant. I haven’t known much of anything about Danny Watts before now, besides his voice and intricate patterns of rhymes the delivers with it. I have been listening to this Messenger Series Vol. 1 for months because I feel it is so p e r f e c t and relatable as a human being. After watching this new visual for his song Poetic Effusions, it is simply my duty to pass it on to you.
