BC Kingdom & Mila J – Press Start
BC Kingdom recently released a surprise collaborative EP with Mila J, called Press Start. Over the weeks, this easily became one of my favorite EPs of the summer. You might know BC Kingdom from their association with Solange’s label, Saint Heron. I came to this project through following Mila J’s music for a while, from her girl groups and solo ventures. I feel their styles mesh perfectly. Hopefully more collaborations are ahead for these three in the future. For the moment, we have this well crafted treasure. I especially like the samples used on Play and that it’s a spin-off of a fifteen-year-old Spice Girls/Darkchild song, “Holler”. I like Ninja…

Mila-J – The Waiting Game Mixtape
Mila J just unveiled a new mixtape after dropping some surprise covers that offer a female’s perspective of some of the most felt songs in R&B, right now. Although the cover of The Weeknd’s Friends, Bryson Tyler’s Don’t, and Drake’s Hotline Bling Bling produced by BCKINGDOM are making waves, there are plenty of other gems glistening across The Waiting Game. My other favorite listens are Kickin’ Back, which is so representative of an L.A. native, F.Y.M., where Mila shows us her rapping skills, and Freaknic with Future. This singer’s style always appeals to me as one who authentically evolved since the 90’s, but brings that same old-school energy to current…

Close Mix (+Download)
Here is something new for the men to play…for the ladies and all lovers. I enjoyed selecting this playlist, which began as a follow-up to Love Maker, but took off to be its own synchronistic vibe. As you might have noticed by now, I am a great fan of slowed down music, especially when it’s stuff from the 90’s. I was sure to include some of my favorite throw-back r&b jams, touched up and remixed, as well as brand new gems which you will definitely thank me for later. All of these dope artists can be found throughout the web, including Soundcloud and Bandcamp. Support them and download this playlist…

Dark Corners Where We Find Particles Of Light Mix (+Download)
I created this mix in the span a couple of days, adding in many of the songs at the very end. I really enjoy the way it came together and hope you enjoy it as much, as well as support the amazing artists I have featured. We live in a world polarized by darkness and light. The theme of this mix is formed through the many topics and scenarios expressed through each song. I believe that our darkest experiences and struggles can either break us down completely, or lead to pure liberation and lightness. I hope that anyone going through a challenging time in life can find something pure to…

Light It and Play Me (+Download)
Light It and Play Me is an incredible vibe that I curated especially for those similar to myself. It is an unspoken ritual to light something and jam out to good music. Whether it is with a candle, some incense sticks, Palo Santo, or a pipe stuffed with herbs, I frequently vibe out to some music as I recharge and reflect. You might get this feel while listening to my previous selections, as well. I feel now to be the perfect moment to finally drop this mix—as we head into a new year with expanding perspectives. Both this one and the next mix I’m dropping have been a long time…

Saint Tiimbre – Body Moves EP & Visual
As soon as I hit play to take in the sounds of Saint Tiimbre’s latest project Body Moves, the lights dim as some atmospheric dance scene grips my imaginative brain, every single time. The emerging San Franscisco group consists of vocalist/producer Natasha Adore and producers Amp Live and Julia Lewis. This is another collaboration made in heaven, as every other song takes me to similar places. It is a soulfully melodic dance record released through Little Friend Records. Each track has a retro vibe. Keep up with this group through the links and also check out the official visual for the lead song, Body Moves, below. Dumplings én China – Your Motha EP (+Dowload)
Dumplings én China is so insanely good and dissimilar to anything else out, or not out. He once expressed that his usual points of creative reference stem from visiting art galleries, and if you pay attention to his growing body of work, that makes perfect sense. Dumplings has been a cosmic favorite since the beginning. I continue to anticipate the moment he will suddenly be that artist we hear about everywhere, blogged about constantly and live-performing my favorite jams. For now, we have this golden pot of a soundcloud to grab tracks from. I have also linked the download of the EP below. Enjoy! Tiron & Ayomari – The Great New Wonderful LP (+Visual)
Tiron & Ayomari are doing something really cool with their new album, The Great New Wonderful, one I’ve anticipated since following The Wonderful Prelude parts 1 & 2. I believe these are necessary artists that have come about time because of the enlightening messages they so thoughtfully incorporate into each their projects. I deeply appreciate many of the ideas being explored and questioned throughout this one, including self identity, love, comfort zones, and change -to name a few. It is refreshing to have music to go to which reminds of the good things you are, and of your potential when you feel hopeless and paralyzed by events of life, while…

Teedra Moses – California Vibes EP
The Young Lioness is back with a surprise EP for her fans! Teedra Moses gave us one of my favorite albums to this day, back when I was a young girl in high school who didn’t see herself as knowing much about love or life and its losses. And even then, I was in love with every track and knew that her debut, Complex Simplicity is something that should be felt by everyone. Keeping in similar tones with her latest self-released project, California Vibes, The New Orleans native has created another masterpiece that curls around my soul ever so snuggly. Every word expressed rings at elements of my own life,…

Little Simz – Quest Luv feat. Tilla
Little Simz is slaying all of the boys, and they don’t even know it yet. In a matter of months, she has dropped a thirteen-track EP followed by two more stunning drops, while she is now prepping a third one. She just revealed the visual for her song Quest Luv, featuring the vocals of Tilla. This track is one of my favorites from her E.D.G.E. EP, which I featured here. In this video, she gets up-close and personal to put this emotional song into perspective. This visual left my mind racing. After the first minute of watching, I found that is both comforting and a bit unsettling that so many…
