    thestand4rd – Simple Needs

I am setting this new video by Alex Howard here, hoping that it will add some magic to your day. It fits in perfectly with this year’s second blood moon upon us. I previously mentioned this mesh of up-coming singers, rappers, and producers called The Stand4rd in a post about Allan Kingdom’s elusive Future Memoirs. The quartet, which features Allan Kingdom himself, Spooky Black, Bobby Raps, and Psymun, has premiered a fourth song via soundcloud, along with this visual to match. The video is packed with mystifying images and effects of nature, which seems to be a recurring theme in a few of their individual visuals as well. Some of…

Jesse Boykins III – Show Me Who You Are

I am still in awe of the prodigious Love Apparatus by Jesse Boykins III, from the visual project he delivered to match the album, to his sensual, soothing harmonies. He earned a place on my recent list of favorite song-writers, and I feel that you should listen out for him as well. He just released this new visual for what might be my favorite song from the album, Show Me Who You Are! Enjoy and follow the links for more Jesse Boykins. jbiiimusic.com soundcloud.com/jesseboykinsiii twitter.com/JesseBoykins3rd

    Greighwolfe – Black EP

The first song that I heard from the latest and what I mustered up as the very first EP from Greighwolfe had me HOT! No, I don’t mean that I was angry. I mean that in the same way that most of the music from Sade or The Weeknd makes me feel. That song was Hurt Me and it lead me to the rest of this brilliant project called the Black EP. Listening to this only a few times has lead me to put Greighwolfe in line with other great modern artists, such as Gary Clark Jr, who bring back the feel of good soul with elements of rock and…

    a k u a – One’s Company EP

I should have shared this discovery months ago, but it’s never too late to have your world rocked by some stellar vibes. This is one of the most overlooked EPs of the year and I just don’t understand why this is, so, here I am with another ultra special musical delivery. Akua’s sound gives me a sense of some heavy other-worldly vibes, which we adore here on the froliC. Many of the visuals I found to go with this EP are just as ethereal, dark, and metaphoric as the songs themselves. I hope she gets to glow for more people soon, including myself, such as on a stage here in…

Canine Teeth – Thunderstorms ft. Dominic Robinson

Since The Weeknd first dropped, you might have noticed the consciousness of darker r&b rise up. Spooky Black is another amazing example of this. I’ve recently been introduced to yet another perspective with this beautiful project started by Canine Teeth’s Erik Anderson. The first single from this collaborative project, Thunderstorm suits its title with some MUST hear production. Thunderstorm is a hypnotic blend of electronic sounds with some smooth and classic, yet brooding r&B vocals provided by Dominic Robinson. It’s a perfect showcase to the rest of the first project by Canine Teeth, Leviathan, which will be available digitally on DRKArts, August 5, 2014. Follow the links for more on…

    Allan Kingdom – Future Memoirs

Delivering some more NEW waves! I have been listening to Future Memoirs for a few days now, and it feels perfect to add to my growing list of music here on the frolic. The Spooky Black feature is what led me to this and other previous and equally stunning EPs by Minnesota native Allan Kingdom. Their collaboration on Wavey is one of my favorites, besides Evergreens, Souls, Famines, and Context, which all add a flavor to this rare sound. I LOVE the production on this project. Some of the sounds, when lined with his flow is really interesting and awesome! His amazing production skills and flow grants a high place…

    FKA twigs – Two Weeks

Well, this is fitting. FKA twigs’ new visual for Two Weeks has her toned with gold while her main image is adorned with the wardrobe of an ancient queen. This woman is a true artist, from her visuals to her unique production for the record! While the video is directed by Nabil, you know from her previous visuals and her background that FKA Twigs has a lot of interesting things to share beyond her first offering her song writing and sounds. Thus far, I’m loving the direction and will be awaiting more visuals from her debut album titled LP1. I tend to get very blissfully lost in myself whenever I…

    Little Simz – E.D.G.E. EP

I have replayed E.D.G.E. more times than I remember now. Little Simz caught my attention from a freestyle, but it wasn’t until I came upon clips posted by her management that I decided to listen to more of her work and found myself taking it in all it once. It’s like that sometimes. I am glad that I came upon those clips at that time, because this girl’s flow is phenomenal! You instantly notice that she is not the typical female MC we are presented with by society, these days. For one, she is British and puts no effort into hiding her accent. Little Simz also counters the general aesthetic…

Full Crate x Mar – Man x Woman

There is a super intriguing visual to Full Crate and Mar’s single Man x Woman that has finally been released through Island Records. This is big news as their previous work together is some of the most soulful in my collection. Mar’s song Our Attempt is on every song list I make for my girls, and I Said is an absolute classic to my ears! I’m excited to know that they are still making music together and will be releasing some more new stuff soon. These two belong on the list of my anticipated duos of the year. I’ve gathered their new visual as well as a few older gems…

Princess Nokia drops new album “Metallic Butterfly”

This LP has been one of the most anticipated on my list since I first discovered the electic sound of Nokia as Wavy Space. Princess Nokia and her producer OWWWLS have managed to perfectly sculpt this extremely visual work with themes that include the power of women, self discovery, defining oneself, culture, raising frequency, and acknowledges that we are all extraordinary beings of light and power. It even begins with Nokia introducing you to the album as a new planet called Metallic Butterfly. This album is a mesh of so many styles, one of my favorites being the trip-hop feel of “Biohazard Butterfly”, although I wouldn’t seriously pin a “fav”…
